Letter from Sam...
Please note that this newsletter is rather short but contains quality
contents as always...enjoy it!
Last sunday I was watching a debate program, when one of the politician
came on saying "how the economy was doing well, wonderful and great!"
Saying things like "...lowest influation and interest rates for many many
years..lowest ever!
But refuse to address the issue of pensions and financial scandals which
he label "American Enron...WorldCom Problem" but fail to remeber
Robert Maxwell and the Mirror Newsgroup pension scandals.
At this point, Steve - my 4 years son came and change the channel to
"Cartoon Network" because I promise when he finish tidying up his
toys (which he scattered everywhere in the living room) he can change
the channel. He just look at me and carrying on smilling, knowing I
could not tell him off or smack him. Why does children uses their charm
on grown up when they're nutty? I'm sure I did not do that to my parent
but if you're to ask them they will say "I did!"...so I clip him on his head
and left the room.

2. Recession and Redundancy Scary!

{firstname}, the economy is in recession although the politicians
will not admit it. For how long? We don't know. Almost every business
I know is struggling. Most are in decline. Retail stores are closing in
record numbers. Bankruptcies are up. Banks are being forced to refinance
loans.
For the first in years, Smart and Capable People are out of jobs. I know
half a dozen people personally - people I love to hire myself if I had the
work...who have been pounding the pavement for months without results.
{firstname}, these people have Degrees and Masters Degrees...highly
educated!
There's no benefit in denying the obvious...The economy is in recession.
How long it will last and how hard it will hit us are the important questions.
I can't pretend to know the answers, but it seems prudent to prepare for
the worst.
Here's what You should expect:
a. People will lose their jobs
b. Some of them will not find work
c. Those that do will make considerably less than they do now
d. Entry level salaries will decline drastically
e. Business will shrink or fail
Here's what You should Do About it:
a. If you're an employee, make yourself indispensable to your boss.
b. Quietly create a second, side income
c. Learn to live more frugally
d. Refrain from any Big, new investments.
Not happy advice? I know. But think about it.
If you've a business owner, here's a strategy according to writing
in Business Review, companies that survive downturns follows:
a. Rather than diversify for stability, they focus on their core
business and attempt to gain market share.
b. They manage costs relentlessly and creatively
c. They strive to maintained the loyalty of their emplyees, customers,
and vendors
d. They maintain a long-term view. They don't get upset because the
numbers are in decline. They expect that.
if you are an employee, you can help your company survive today's rough
times by forcusing on the four strategies mentioned above.
